Thursday Afternoon & Evening

We worked with such a great bunch of students today who were so happy to help with our dialogues. We explained that we wanted to do a pasar video, a school video & a house video and for each we would hope to visit those places. Everything was ok until they realised Sharon wanted to film their homes but they then relaxed when she explained that we would do it tomorrow and only if their families agreed.
So hopefully tomorrow we can build on what we learned today, ie., students facing the camera when talking, filming outside is better ( as long as the mosque isn't calling the faithful to prayer!), students trying not to speak directly from the script so that it sounds more natural & the camera focusing on the speaker only.
On the way home from school we dropped into a warung for es campur or juice or es buah. All were absolutely delicious and refreshing. See previous post!
Once back in the hotel we had a little time to get ready either for another visit to the pool or for an aerobics class. Bec & Kate tried the aerobics class which was held next door and was for women only. It was fascinating watching a small group of women arrive fully dressed complete with jilbab and then strip down to an amazing variety of gym clothing and runners- one women wore little more than a bikini. They all worked very hard for just over an hour to very loud familiar music and sweated copiously in the small unairconditioned room. One girl had 2 towels; one to wipe her body and the other to wipe the floor because her sweat was dripping and making the floor beneath her slippery! Afterwards they somehow got their hot sweaty bodies back into their street clothes to go home in. Whereas Bec & Kate purely headed out the door and went next door straight to the bathroom for a mandi (Indonesian style shower). Couldn't imagine how horrible it would be having to cover up again just to travel home.
Dinner tonight was at Bu Arfa's & she made everything we had asked for- pergedel jagung, pepes ikan, tahu bacam, and more. It was a very indonesian meal with everyone sitting around waiting while it was cooked & then when ready to eat, all the white fella's tucked in immediately & when we were finished then the locals began eating! It felt awkward somewhat - and it was exacerbated with them sitting all at one end of the circle on the floor.
I am now lying upstairs on the bed in the photo attached at Bu Arfa's ready for sleep, while everyone else is back at the hotel, so goodbye for today.
